General Accountabilities: 

  • Provide technical assistance to the field and Head Office on matters relating to design, commissioning and maintenance of a wide range of PC&T (Protection, control and Telecom)equipment.
  • Interact with Engineering, Standards, Asset Management, Field P&C, OGCC, ITMC, Telecom Engineering and Integrated Business Support to provide expert technical leadership/ advice to other LOBs.
  • Recommend new and review existing HODS documents, Standards, Work methods etc., recognizing opportunities for introduction of new technology and recommend changes to improve efficiencies.
  • Monitor equipment performance and compliance with regulatory requirements, investigate problems and initiate corrective actions.
  • Create or modify PC&T procedures and workbooks for commissioning and maintenance.
  • Create or modify PC&T related HODs documents.
  • Analyze Naturally Occurring Events (NOEA), write reports and make recommendations.
  • Liaise with manufactures, Inergy and Supply Chain to evaluate a wide range of PC&T test instruments and PC&T equipment for stations use.
  • Provide input to Spares Strategy for PC&T equipment. Initiate contingency plans for sparing obsolete equipment.
  • Represent the department on internal and external committees.
  • Maintain awareness of advancing technology and utilize such knowledge in assigned work areas.
  • Exercise periodic supervision over staff assigned to assist/contribute to specific projects or assignments.
  • Assist in field work of a highly unique technical nature or in emergency situations.
  • Visit field locations to provide direct technical support and participate as necessary to ensure protection, control and Telecom equipment is installed, commissioned and maintained as required.
  • Attend to other duties as required.

  

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of theory and application of Protection, control and Telecom systems on transmission and distribution systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various NERC policies, procedures, standards and regulatory requirements that govern commissioning and maintenance of PCTS equipment.
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex problems in PC&T systems and implement solutions.
  • Successful completion of a 3-year relevant engineering technologist program or 4 year electrical engineering university program. 
  • Holds or Eligible for Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) license.
  • Requires experience in various sections of Protection, control and Telecom activities including some field experience. A period of Six to eight years is necessary to gain this experience.
  • Demonstrated oral and listening communication skills.
  • Demonstrated technical written communication skills with ability to write clear & concise technical procedures, reports or similar documents.
  • Good interpersonal skills to establish respect and rapport with Head Office and field staff, providing excellent customer service confidently and consistently.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership, provide training and assisting in developing new staff.
  • Self-starter, capable of working with little supervision given only general direction.
  • Should be able to learn quickly and adapt to working in deferent disciplines (Protection, Control  and Telecom & NERC CIP Compliance)
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
