Hydro One is Ontario’s largest electricity transmission and distribution service provider with 1.5 million customers, $32.8 billion in assets as of December 31, 2023, and revenues of approximately $7.8 billion in 2023. They have been energizing Ontario for more than 110 years. Their service territory covers approximately 90% of the province. They also generate and distribute electricity to 22 remote communities primarily in Ontario's far north. They distribute electricity across Ontario predominantly rural customers, or approximately 26% of the total number of customers in Ontario.

 

In November 2015, they became a publicly traded company on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX: H) and are deeply committed to the communities where they live and work through community investment, sustainability and diversity initiatives.

 

Hydro One is at the centre of the energy transition in Ontario and the Director, Government Relations and Partnerships will play a key role in deploying that strategy with the federal and provincial government. Reporting to the Vice President Stakeholder Relations, they will work closely with industry/sector partners and will actively participate with industry associations and networking groups. The Director will play a key role in advancing Hydro One’s relationships, reputation, mission and the broader public interests with governments and other strategic partners.

 

The ideal candidate brings extensive government relations experience with a demonstrated track record of positioning an organization to effectively work with and influence all levels of government. They will be an impactful communicator with an ability to engage, influence, and inspire key stakeholders.A genuine team player able to build consensus and bridges across all levels, both internally and externally.Above all else, the ideal candidate will bring strong people leadership skills to make a meaningful contribution to the business at large.

 

The ideal candidate has an undergraduate degree in a related field and has 10 to 15 years of related government relations, public relations and communications experience. The possess strong political acumen and have the ability to influence outcomes as well as develop strong and effective teams. The Director is a seasoned government relations leader with experience working in a regulated environment being a strong asset. From past experience, they can develop, execute and measure integrated plans to drive results. They also have a successful track record in managing and building trusted relationships and ability to prioritize, negotiate and work with multiple levels of internal and external stakeholders.
