Job Overview:

Support the Manager, Business Controls, and Operations units in maintaining effective business processes for data capture, reporting and internal control.

General Accountabilities:

Through collateral relationships with respect to the Manager – Business Controls, and within the context provided by the Manager – Business Controls and working closely with Corporate Finance and the Operations units, provide the following:

  • Provide key support to all Lines of Business and Corporate functions for the review, redesign and implementation of field business processes.
  • Provide direction and support to field and Head Office staff to ensure appropriate controls in place and operating.
  • On behalf of the Vice-Presidents, test and ensure compliance for the Lines of Business Bill 198 controls. Requires providing advice, guidance and assistance in a functional capacity, to exercise control over the action to be pursued and to stand accountable for the soundness of such advice in relation to the responsibilities of assigned business area.
  • Review and assess the execution of internal controls; identify and follow-up on control weaknesses.
  • Undertake review and report on specific internal control issues.
  • Coordinate and supervise documentation, procedures and training for revised business processes.
  • Manage the Corporate Charge Card program, and necessary controls, across the Corporation. Provide direction to contacts across the Corporation, as well as to Inergi and Bank of Montreal staff.
  • Ensure provision of monthly/quarterly internal control reports, including Letters of Disclosure and Representation, Audit Status Report and undertake necessary compliance follow-up.
  • On behalf of the CFO, Audit or Vice-Presidents, investigate and recommend actions to address audit items, and perform compliance controls.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate business processes and practices. 
  • Ensure requirements are effectively communicated to business units and monitor compliance.
  • Monitor, assess, propose and implement opportunities for process improvements across Operations units.
  • Represent the interests of the Company on relevant teams and committees related to business process and internal controls.
  • Provide advice and guidance across the Corporation, and direct business process design as required on the various issues related to business systems, processes and internal controls.
  • Fully support regulatory requirements and necessary information and analysis.
  • Improve the quality, timeliness and availability of financial related information.
  • Support the objectives of the Manager – Business Controls, Business Integration.


Selection Criteria

  • Requires a University degree and professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) and/or a CIA (or equivalent)
  • Postgraduate degree in Business Administration and/or related major is an asset.
  • Requires a strong knowledge of internal control frameworks designed to effectively support disclosure requirements under National Instrument (NI) 52-109 Certification of Disclosure in Issuers’ Annual and Interim Filing and/or Sarbanes-Oxley in a large and organization.
  • Experience with performing assurance work (audits/reviews), business risk assessments, and root-cause analysis is an asset.
  • Understanding of the electrical utility industry and general operations is an asset.
  • Understanding of Hydro One’s business model, organizational structure and electricity sector stakeholders is an asset.
  • Requires organizational and project management skills to ensure timely execution of program and engagement work.
  • Requires proficiency in business writing for the preparation of reports and presentations.
  • Requires effective presentation skills, appropriate for senior management levels.
  • Experience with SAP and other enterprise systems is an asset.
  • The ability to apply critical thinking and manage assignments independently.
  • The ability to work independently or in small teams, as assigned.

  • A minimum period of 5+ years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
