The Corporate Development group will provide M&A support through financial evaluation, technical & regulatory due-diligence, and conformance with strategic rationale for a potential acquisition or partnership.

The Corporate Development group at Hydro One supports developing transformative business strategies to produce earnings growth and diversification through commercial operations including potential acquisition or partnership. This would involve working with other business units to enable execution of priority initiatives, generating and evaluating innovative business opportunities to complement traditional utility operations and adjacencies, such as investments in Venture Capital funds, a suite of ‘behind-the-meter’ products and service offerings, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, renewable power, data monetization etc.

Job Responsibilities:

The assignment will require the successful candidate to be involved in various aspects of corporate development, market research, financial evaluation and analyses:
• Conduct market analyses to identify emerging industry trends, commercial business opportunities, service offerings, and business models within the electricity industry
• Assist with execution of the corporate business strategy by working with/supporting other business units; this may involve organizing workshops, developing presentation material and facilitating the roll-out of strategic initiatives
• Support evaluation of potential opportunities through business case development and financial modeling
• Explain and present complex information in a straightforward way, by developing and delivering communications materials for senior executives up to the CEO and Board of Directors level.

During their term the student can expect to learn technical skills such as:
• Opportunity to learn about the utility operations, business models and transformative corporate development activities at one of the largest electric utilities in Canada• Identifying and developing innovative growth opportunities that could potentially lead to new business units and product offerings in the market
• Building effective leadership, negotiation and facilitation skills through engagement with potential partners, vendors and commercial affiliates
• Develop organization/time management skills as the group works with broader mandate on short timelines.
• Opportunity to build/demonstrate strong analytical and financial accounting skills

Selection Criteria:
• Currently in the third year of a Bachelor’s degree program in engineering, business, finance, accounting, computer science, or related field. Experience in the Electricity Industry (Power & Utilities, Renewables, etc.)is preferred; other experience in related industries such as Oil & Gas and Mining will be considered.
• Experience developing and analyzing financial and strategic models in an asset / capital intensive industry (preferably Electricity but others will be considered)
• Expert level skills in Excel: ability to build financial models and perform analysis
• Strong proficiency with Powerpoint
• Understanding of financial statements and Electricity Industry concepts
• Demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills set: ability to complete a regression, perform complex modeling, statistically literate, etc.
• An innovative and creative mindset, open to looking at things differently and creating value where it may not first appear obvious
• A strong passion for the Electricity industry and energy transition and a desire to be part of the myriad changes occurring within it (new technology, regulation, government goals, etc.)
• Ability to interact effectively with Senior Management

General Accountabilities:

Assist in reviewing and defining technical standards requirements for equipment on the transmission and distribution systems, maintenance programs in the work management systems, in reviewing asset condition reports and defect reports as well as in developing and using database application to monitor asset performance. Prepare comprehensive documentation as necessary.
Provide guidance to and work with, other interested groups in the implementation of recommendations.
Assist in the preparation of business cases for the management of transmission/distribution assets.
Assist in the preparation of technical standards, work specifications and contracts, and provide necessary technical direction to service providers. Assist in the coordination activities with Service Providers and stakeholders. Maintain contract databases as required.
Assist in the monitoring, control and redirection of programs and projects. Monitor service provider performance, report variances and give redirection if required. Assist in resolving issues through negotiation with the Service Provider, stakeholders and customer. Prepare comprehensive reports and specifications and present recommendations to resolve issues, producing necessary documentation, as necessary.
Assist in the development of the business plan, budgets and regulatory submissions. Assist in the preparation of management reports. Maintain management databases, as required.
Assist the unit in working with the Service Providers to ensure capabilities to perform required works and in evaluating the contracting process for continuous improvement.
Assist the unit on discussions and negotiation with customers, stakeholders and Service Providers. Be a technical resource and consultant on transmission/distribution asset management matters.
Promote acceptance to corporate proposals and generally work to ally fears, overcome resistance and otherwise contribute towards securing, protecting and advancing objectives. Liaise with other internal work groups, divisions and outside interests.
Maintain an awareness of advancing technology developments and improvements in technical standards related to transmission/distribution assets.·

Selection Criteria:

Education:

Requires an engineering knowledge of electrical power systems and facilities related to transmission/distribution/information system assets, mathematics, information technology to assist in carrying out theoretical, economic and engineering analytical studies related to the application, design and performance of the transmission/distribution/information systems.
Requires knowledge of technical writing to prepare effective reports. Requires good communication skills to prepare and deliver effective presentations. This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired in and equivalent to a four-year university education in an appropriate field such as electrical engineering.

Experience:

Requires experience of the electrical power system operational requirements, policies, practices and procedures governing transmission/distribution/information assets.
Requires experience related to the design, performance, commissioning, operation and maintenance of transmission/distribution/information assets.
Requires utility experience to be familiar with the operation and maintenance of power systems dealing with customers and suppliers.
Requires experience to be familiar with the application of information technology to management control systems.

Act as an operator’s switching agent if required and perform environmental management duties.

Work will include contracting environmental studies, supporting Environmental Assessments (EA), preparing environmental due diligence/effects reports, environmental protection plans, permitting, monitoring and compliance on new electrical infrastructure (lines and stations) projects and large maintenance projects throughout Ontario.

Job Description:

Perform or assist in environmental and land use analysis studies and development within the department responsible for any of the following: Project Planning Services, Computer Applications, Inventory Methods, Land Use Planning Services, Impact Prediction Studies, Environmental Program Coordination and Study Methods Development. Prepare tendering specifications, budget requirementsand participate on committees.

Job Description:

The Planner can be assigned responsibilities directed to any of the following major departmental activities associated with the approval, design and construction of new and modified bulk transmission facilities or responsibilities associated with reviews of external policies, legislation and planning documents on behalf of Hydro One.

(a) Project Planning and Services - where responsibilities are directed to the coordination of environmental study projects; the analysis of land use and environmental implications; the preparation of recommendations and reports on or from among route and site alternatives; the analysis of specific environmental situations, the preparation of recommendations to mitigate the environmental effects of constructing bulk transmission/transformation facilities.

(b) Computer Applications - where responsibilities are directed to studies and the development and maintenance of computer applications as associated with the planning process and automated processing of environmental and land use data, to the provision of specialized training and advice where required.

(c) Land Use Planning Services - where responsibilities are directed towards the analysis of and coordination of responses by Hydro One Inc. on proposed government land use policy, municipal official plans, zoning bylaws and site plans, and proposed development plans of government ministries and agencies to ensure that Hydro One's interests are considered and protected; to review and comment on property management proposals and plans of subdivision as requested by internal groups; to review and analyze existing land use planning documents for environmental project planning; to prepare and process requests for Orders-in-Council and municipal approvals required for projects.

(d) Impact Prediction Studies - where responsibilities are directed towards developing better understandings of the kinds of land use and environmental effects which could result from Ontario Hydro facilities and activities; methods by which such knowledge can be used to predict effects and to help identify, compare and select from among transmission route and site alternatives and to mitigate effects of constructing bulk system facilities.

(e) Inventory Methods - where responsibilities are directed towards improvement of methods for collecting and creating information about the environment and potential impacts, including better sources of information, new technology and media.

Carry out minor or assist in carrying out major studies and planning for construction projects within the responsibility areas as assigned. On occasion, coordinate smaller studies as directed. Refer unusual problems and relatively important matters to supervisor for direction. Participate in the preparation and presentation of comprehensive responses, reports, recommendations and environmental assessment documents to, and appear before senior management and other interested parties in support of recommendations resulting from assigned projects or studies.
Carry out investigations, develop evidence and appear at formal hearings including governmental and public participation processes related to land use, environmental planning, site selection Ontario Municipal Board (OMB), Environmental Assessment Board (EAB), joint boards, etc, in an effort to influence the members to change their recommendations in accordance with the interests of Hydro One Inc. Follow all Hydro One rules and practices regarding work safety and vehicle operation.
Contribute to the securing, protecting and advancing of responsible project and corporate objectives for assigned minor projects or components of major projects or activities, by means of studies and negotiations with external personnel and professionals to achieve mutual understanding or agreement, and to persuade them to change their positions or adopt courses of action in keeping with corporate objectives.
Prepare tendering specifications on departmental purchases or study contracts in accordance with assigned projects. Carry out the evaluation of tenders and the awarding and administering of contracts as directed.
Prepare information in accordance with budget requirements for designated projects or project components and be accountable for financial control as assigned.
Represent the department at meetings and on committees and task groups.
Keep abreast of latest concepts, theories, and development in the field of land use and environmental planning.

Education:

Requires a knowledge of environmental sciences, environmental engineering, urban and regional planning or landscape architecture including such pertinent subjects within those fields as the ecological sciences, land economics, land uses, geography, agriculture, environmental assessment and planning theory, etc, to perform or assist in the conduct of environmental studies and design and construction components of transmission and station projects of Hydro One Inc.
Requires a knowledge of computer technology and GIS. Requires a thorough knowledge of communication skills, both oral and written, for preparation, editing and presentation of standards, procedures and environmental assessments, and in dealing with both professional contacts and the general public.
This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired either through the successful completion of a four year university education in environmental science, biology, planning, engineernig or similar.

Experience:

Be responsible of how the business will evolve through deployment of new technology.

Position Overview

The Customer Operations Manager (COM) is a senior leadership role responsible for managing a mobile crew of Design and Metering Services staff, including but not limited to Meter Readers, Meter Technicians, and Supervisors. Job Description

Test, repair, calibrate, program, and perform final inspections on complex meters, instruments, and relays (e.g., revenue billing, power quality, panel meters, protective/control relays). Review work orders, troubleshoot issues, reprogram devices to Hydro One standards, perform electrical and mechanical repairs, complete quality documentation, update databases, and arrange shipment to the field.
Perform multiple technical assignments concurrently, including acceptance testing, troubleshooting, refurbishment, calibration, programming, and final inspection of meters, relays, and recorders. Modify control panels, fabricate test racks, and service remote metering and communication systems.
Conduct final inspections per approved Inspection and Test Plans. Complete quality records, perform statistical analysis for acceptance, seal meters, issue certificates, manage non-conforming products, implement corrective actions, and participate in Measurement Canada and ISO audits.
Ensure meters and devices meet government and Hydro One standards. Review calibration, inspection, and supplier quality records for accuracy and completeness prior to acceptance or seal extensions.
Modify and rebuild relays to meet field-specific requirements. Source or fabricate parts, alter specifications, assemble and calibrate units, complete ISO documentation, and coordinate work orders with the Supervisor.

Education:

Arrange for exhibits, speakers, films, etc, for public meetings and be prepared to participate in local public meetings to promote or defend Corporate policy. Foster good public relations at all times.
Participate in cross-functional teams to implement customer products and programs in the areas of asset planning and operations,customer relations, customer connections, information management, code compliance application of tariffs within timelines.
Liaise with technical specialists within and outside the company for the exchange of data and consultation in areas of mutual interests and integrate the recommendations into policies, processes and products being developed or delivered to customers.

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Minimum 7 years progressive experience in utility metering operations, including demonstrated leadership responsibility, required.
Requires experience working with internal and external industry, customer and regulatory partners.
Experience in a unionized work environment is required.
