Role Information:

This role of Regional Maintainer - Lines, is a regular full-time position located in the Chapleau Operations Centre. Hydro One requires a Red Seal Power Line Technician Journeyperson with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience. The successful candidate(s) will be eligible to report to positions outside the Chapleau Operations Centre only after a period of approximately two (2) years’ service at the Chapleau Operations Centre (i.e. after June 30th, 2028). The successful applicant(s) to this posting will not be entitled to moving and/or transportation expenses. The successful candidate(s) will play a significant role in mentoring and coaching the Powerline Technician Apprentice(s) assigned to the Chapleau Operations Center. 

 

General Accountabilities:

  • Under the direction of the FLM, UTS II and UTS III, carry out, and mentor staff involved in the construction and maintenance of distribution lines, transmission lines and associated apparatus, including erection of poles and structures for distribution & transmission power lines.
  • Maintain power service to electrical customers, including troubleshooting and restoring of electrical power during emergencies.
  • Install, connect and repair underground, submarine and overhead conductors to service customers.
  • Perform approved live line work using live line tools, rubber gloves and barehand techniques. Follow all requirements under the Work Protection Code (including establishment and holding).
  • Install various types of metering equipment and maintain and repair street and sentinel lighting.
  • Understand and operate motorized vehicles and equipment (including chainsaw operation)
  • Work with staff and material efficiently and ensure that the proper vehicles, tools and equipment are available and maintained in good working order.
  • Work collaboratively with staff and ensure that safety protocols are followed and that work is performed safely, efficiently and in compliance with quality standards.
  • Applies and follows all HODS documents, policies and procedures in order to meet the objectives of safe work.
  • Be prepared to accept an equitable portion of trouble call service and emergency work outside of normal work hours.
  • Sound understanding of documentation, job planning and knowledge of work management systems are required.
  • Contract Monitoring Skills along with troubleshooting Skills, Technical Skills (such as load management, line layout, staking etc.), Environmental Skills (such as PCB management, WHMIS, waste management, etc.)
  • Other duties as required and/or as outlined in the Trades Matrix

 
Selection Criteria:

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Power Line Technician journeyperson.
  • Must have a Grade XII or equivalent, and Certificate of Qualification of Power Line Technician.
  • Must have demonstrated a high standard of safety and efficiency.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of the Distribution Standards Manual, Work Methods Manual, Work Protection Code, Hydro One Safety Rules and Trades Supervisory Criteria and Responsibility Matrix.
  • Must demonstrate a high standard of relations with staff and customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population of customers and staff, along with a genuine interest and ability to work in a remote community.

 

Conditions of Hire:

This position is the result of the unique circumstance and needs of the Chapleau Operations Center. As a condition of hire to this full-time permanent role, the successful applicant(s) will only be eligible to move to lateral or demotion positions (i.e. mass hire) outside the Chapleau Operations Centre after June 30, 2028.
