This role can be based out of either of these locations- BAH - Barrie Warehouse, T-50 Mississauga Meter Shop, TCT - Trinity, Haldimand SC
General Accountabilities:
Reporting to the Manager – Dx Lines Technical Services, the position will be accountable for the following:
- Supervise technical staff related to Distribution Lines Engineering - Material Support, and provide leadership in provision to such services to various LOBs on matters relating to Materials Management, Planning, and Design Services challenges.
- Assign and check the work, providing advice, guidance, approval and instruction to ensure the quality and accuracy of work are maintained.
- Develop and maintain processes, procedures and standards for staff in a working environment which is consistent with the philosophy and goals of continuous improvement, and ensure staff are properly trained and developed.
- Provide clear expectations, performance measures, meaningful feedback and recognize and reward achievements.
- Maintain an awareness of technological advances in work tools, equipment, processes, databases and practices to enhance work management and execution. Initiate changes to improve productivity & efficiency.
- Collaborate with suppliers, regulatory bodies, customers, and stakeholders related to established work program objectives and strategies. Requires influencing external staff to adopt a course of action to one suitable to the Company’s best interest.
- Develop performance, resource and workload indicators, and management control and business systems to monitor all aspects of work performance in the department. Identify and act on opportunities to introduce operational efficiencies, automated methods, productivity improvements, and overhead cost reductions. Provide Manager with reports and data concerning costs, productivity trends, improvement initiatives, etc.
- Provide technical advice, direction and related support services to Distribution Lines, Work Methods, Forestry, Planning and Legal on design, safety, unforeseen issues, processes, technical specifications, operational requirements, maintenance and limitations of the distribution system; in support of the Distribution System.
- Develop, review, and approve standards and designs to meet requirements and ensure all applicable codes and government regulations are followed including compliance to national standards, safety policies and regulations, reliability and operational standards and other applicable requirements.
- Provide strategic advice to Distribution Lines and Planning staff in such matters as innovation.
- Work with projects teams, technical specialists (internal and external) and suppliers to analyze designs and material requirements, prepare written reports and technical specifications, make recommendations for new or revised programs/projects.
- Mentor and coach junior staff members.
Selection Criteria:
- Demonstrated knowledge of Distributions systems; including standards, materials, life cycle design/cost, sustainment development, operating characteristics, etc.
- Strong customer orientation and demonstrated ability to work with customers and co-workers.
- Strong project and time management skills and ability to negotiate and influence others in a positive manner.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, and improve team engagement.
- Requires experience in standards development, review and approval.
- Requires extensive study and analysis of situations based on background experience to reach conclusions that are sound and acceptable.
- Requires knowledge of business administration and management principles to prepare defined budget, business strategies and customer service targets, etc.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, coaching and mentorship
- Knowledge of CSA, IEEE, ASTM and other relevant Standard bodies relating to the Distribution system is strongly desired.
- Must have a sound knowledge of the Distribution system design standards and technical requirements related to construction, operation and maintenance.
- Must have solid knowledge of electric utility practices and operation of Transmission and Distribution networks.
- Must have knowledge of Ontario’s Regulation 22/04 requirements.
- Requires an understanding of the organization, reporting relationships, safety rules, related government legislations, and policies and procedures.
- Requires a proficient knowledge of English including written and verbal communication skills to be able to effectively prepare written reports, chair meetings and committees, interact with customers and deliver presentations.
- Possession of a Professional Engineer License in the province of Ontario is an asset, but not required.
- Must have a solid working knowledge of Distribution Lines & Planning processes, work practices, work programs, and reporting activities.
- Should have experience in planning, cost monitoring, project management & control, financial assessments and analysis.
- Must have prior supervisory or leadership experience.
- Work experience of over 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience
