Job Function:
Assist Superintendent and First Line Managers on all matters pertaining to the effective operation and maintenance of plant and equipment. Provide direction to staff in commissioning of new equipment. Provide technical leadership, expert advice and guidance to Stations Staff and external contacts on technical matters pertaining to station equipment and related power system components. Coordinate Stations projects, Contracts, Service Level Agreements, Purchased Services Agreements and IOPAA activities. Provide advice and guidance on matters relating to Transport and Work equipment changes.
Job Description:

Assist Stations staff and Managers on all matters pertaining to the effective operation and maintenance of plant and equipment. Provide direction to staff in commissioning of new equipment. Provide technical leadership, expert advice and guidance to Stations Staff and external contacts on technical matters pertaining to station equipment and related power system components.

Act as the primary contact for station maintenance, commissioning and project work for Engineering Services, Project Managers and First Line Managers, as well as for external organizations, such as Ontario Power Generation or other clients. Forward requests to appropriate authorities for action.

Assist with estimates and support Managers in resolving project cost issues through cost analysis, identifying and analyzing project planning options.

Coordinate Stations projects. Prepare and be accountable for the completion of project in-service reports. Identify and be accountable for required maintenance procedures, documentation and training for equipment installed under Station Capital Work, ie, Type II projects.

Provide technical leadership and expert advice in obtaining and delivering projects and maintenance for external customers. Discuss contracts with external customers based on guidelines and parameters provided and refer any unusual problems or relatively important matters to the Supervisor or Project Manager for direction, such as contract cancellation. Prepare and/or provide specifications for contract work (internal and/or external) and monitor quality of work performed by contractors and initiate corrective action when required.

Coordinate and administer contracts, Service Level Agreements activities, such as assessment surveys, Purchased Services Agreements and IOPAA activities. Utilize computer systems for collecting, analyzing and reporting of information related to these activities.

Provide limited supervision over staff when assigned to assist in special project work, ensuring compliance with safe practices, environment policies and Collective Agreement. Assist in providing appropriate training to ensure that staff have adequate skills to perform the work and meet changing technology, as well as any relevant legislative requirements.

Prepare and/or review existing procedures and work methods, recognize opportunities for introducing new technologies and recommend means for increasing efficiency, productivity and reduction in cost.

Provide advice and guidance on matters relating to Transport and Work equipment changes.

Perform other duties as required.
Selection Criteria:
Education:
-
Requires a knowledge of electrical and mechanical theory related to the operation and maintenance of Distribution and Transmission.

Requires a knowledge of computer technology to utilize systems for collecting data.
-
Requires a knowledge of statistics, cost analysis and cost control operations related to the preparation of estimates and variances between actual and estimated costs.

Requires a knowledge of contract management to prepare contract specifications, procedures and work methods.
-
Requires a good knowledge of English in order to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of management and internal/external groups.

This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of Grade XII plus 4 years' further concentrated study.
Experience:
-
Requires experience working in a trades, technical and operating environment in the electrical distribution and transmission business.

Requires experience with Service Level Agreements and Contracts to be able to analyze information and provide advice and guidance.

Requires experience in project management and in the distribution and transmission utility business to acquire an understanding of the technical aspects of the job, work methods, work equipment, materials and terms.

Requires Electrical Maintenance and Mechanical Maintenance experience to be familiar with work requirements in the field.

Requires experience in estimating, cost control techniques and cost analysis to effectively prepare technical reports.

Requires labour relations experience as it relates to the work activities of the unions and trades.

A period of over 8 years and up to and including 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
This role can be based out of either of these locations Milton, Etobicoke, Rexdale, Woodbridge, or East York.
