Job Factor:
Support the Director in the development and recommendation of strategic, tactical and operational plans to maximize the efficiency, effectiveness, and performance of the business unit. Contribute to the development of operational plans that support competitive pricing, service quality, and growth of the customer base. Provide effective leadership, direction, coaching and supervision to staff to ensure high levels of engagement and performance. The function is comprised of multiple collaborative units. This role is responsible for the leadership and oversight of one or more units, which may include accountability for system operations, data quality and availability, compliance with regulatory or operational standards, asset or equipment management, and the development of standards, specifications, and operational plans to support organizational objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership & People Management
- Provide strategic leadership, direction, coaching, and performance management to a diverse, multi disciplinary team through subordinate managers and specialists.
- Plan, organize, prioritize, and allocate work, staffing, and resources to achieve approved programs and performance targets.
- Recruit, develop, mentor, and assess management and professional staff to meet current and future capability requirements.
- Lead employee relations activities including selection, promotion, discipline, succession planning, and talent development.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance culture aligned with corporate values. Strategy, Planning & Performance
- Provide strategic, tactical, and operational planning for the unit, translating corporate objectives into actionable programs and outcomes.
- Contribute to the development and execution of the portfolios strategy, asset management plans, and system level planning initiatives.
- Monitor operational and financial performance, identify variances, and implement corrective actions to improve productivity, service quality, and cost of service.
- Lead service improvement and cost reduction initiatives in response to changing business and market conditions.
Regulatory Compliance & Governance
- Develop, implement, and maintain processes supporting federal and industry regulatory programs, ensuring full compliance and due diligence.
- Oversee systems, controls, and documentation to meet regulatory, legal, audit, and corporate governance requirements.
- Ensure environmental stewardship and compliance with applicable regulations and corporate policies.
Service Delivery & Vendor Relations
- Develop, manage, and oversee agreements and contracts with vendors and external service providers in alignment with approved business strategies.
- Ensure services are delivered cost effectively, meet customer standards, and reflect competitive, value added pricing.
- Maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners/clients, service users, and Hydro One Lines of Business to ensure alignment, value realization, and effective program execution.
Technology, Systems & AMI Operations
- Provide strategic direction for complex business related software; ensuring performance, reliability, and usability improvements.
- Oversee the evaluation, testing, implementation, operation, and lifecycle management of vendor supplied hardware and software.
- Maintain awareness of technology trends and industry standards; guide vendor roadmaps to align with organizational priorities.
- Support and continuously improve quality management programs.
Asset, Inventory & Resource Stewardship
- Demonstrate stewardship of human, financial, information, and physical assets by ensuring protection, security, and responsible use.
- Oversee lifecycle, inventory, refurbishment, certification, and end of life management for equipment.
- Ensure compliance with Measurement Canada requirements for meter sampling, inspection, and certification.
- Oversee purchasing, shipping, receiving, vendor returns, testing, troubleshooting, and vendor evaluation processes.
- Manage strategic inventory for portfolio assets; ensuring compliance with standards and operational readiness.
Health, Safety & Workplace Environment
- Ensure a safe, healthy, and respectful work environment by providing appropriate training, procedures, equipment, and facilities.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, legal, regulatory, and corporate requirements.
- Promote a workplace that values diversity, inclusion, and freedom from harassment.
Managerial Accountability
- Accountable for achieving approved programs and results through the performance of others.
- Establish clear context, expectations, policies, and procedures for subordinate managers and teams.
- Promote continuous improvement through two-way communication, employee engagement, and performance feedback.
- Mentor managers once removed and build leadership capability across the unit.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Minimum 7 years progressive experience in utility metering operations, including demonstrated leadership responsibility, required.
- Requires experience working with internal and external industry, customer and regulatory partners.
- Experience in a unionized work environment is required.
