This vacancy is for System Control Level 5 position and therefore involves working in the Control Room at the Integrated System Operating Centre (ISOC) on 12 hour rotating shifts that may include weekends and holidays.

 

General Accountabilities:

Support the Director(s) of Transmission & Distribution System Control in implementing the System Operations goals, objectives and strategies at a Departmental level by providing effective leadership and direction to the Departmental work group assigned to this position. The focus of this assignment is to work within System Control team to lead our teams in the safe & reliable operation of Hydro One's network & successfully drive our outage execution process forward. You will be required to work with our partner lines of business and internal within System Operations to gain a better understanding of our processes and to implement positive change to the process and support the Control Room . 

 

Specific Accountabilities:

Through collateral relationships within System Operations, with internal stakeholder groups such as Distribution Lines, Asset Management, Operating Technology and external project vendors within the context provided by the Director(s) of System Operations (strategies and policies, accountabilities, tasks, budgets and programs, compliance, performance targets, expectations for continuous improvement, etc.), you will:

  • Support all Corporate Health and Safety Initiatives

  • Oversee and manage the 7 x 24 Transmission and Distribution Operations function and ensure the capability of the Transmission and Distribution systems are optimized consistent with system and customer requirements.

  • Operate Corporate and Customer assets in accordance with Market Rules, Transmission and Distribution System Code, Hydro One policy, Good Utility Practices and related policies.

  • Address, manage and minimize public and employee safety risks.

  • Provide reports on real time distribution and transmission performance and compliance.

  • Act as a liaison and interface with external stakeholder groups such as IESO, Generators and connected Customers to provide Hydro One Networks outage planning support of their specific needs.

  • Provide operating expertise, oversight and technical services for operating projects and initiatives supporting operation of the provincial high and low voltage grid to ensure safe, reliable, efficient and cost effective delivery of power to our customers.

  • Assist Project Team to provide expertise, oversight and technical input on multi-functional projects and initiatives.

  • Manage the technical challenges encountered with the integration of new ADS/DMS, OMS and EMS on the Hydro One Distribution system

  • Assist in other duties of the ISOC as workload and priorities dictate.

  • Translate Hydro One and System Operations goals and objectives into a direction which guides the operation of the business and moves forward to Best in Class practices.

  • Effectively communicate the direction, priorities and expectations to staff.

  • Develop and implement performance targets and measures with staff to achieve business objectives.

  • Define specific tasks for staff who are required to achieve desired results and/or to accommodate changes required within the business operations.

  • Establish and maintain a sound business relationship with bargaining units focused on common business objectives.

  • Communicate expectations regarding the collateral relationship among staff.

  • Provide staff with appropriate knowledge, skills, information, work procedures and equipment to facilitate responsible behaviour which will protect their safety and contribute to their health.

  • Provide a work environment and facilities where health and safety incidents are minimized.

Selection Criteria Essential Knowledge:

  • Requires knowledge of the lifecyle of Transmission and Distribution Projects and familarity with key interfaces witin the process.

  • Requires knowledge of electrical theory related to operating transmission/distribution power systems and equipment.

  • Requires knowledge of business practices to develop and monitor the budget and to provide costing estimates and specifications on a variety of projects.

  • Requires knowledge of Hydro One Safety rules as well as strong knowledge of OH &S Act and Regulations.

  • Required to have a working knowledge of Project Management and testing phase methodology.

  • Demonstrate understanding of Operating policies and procedures.

  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with both internal and external customers/vendors.

 

Essential Experience:

  • Requires experience with internal and external industry/customer groups.

  • Requires demonstrated awareness and flexibility towards customer issues

  • Requires 10 - 12 years related experience with demonstrated progressive supervisory experience or equivalent.

 

Essential Competencies:

  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills to ensure effective communication with staff and the preparation of reports.

  • Requires familiarity of the Ontario Electricity Market structure.

  • Requires familiarity with the Power Workers Union and Society collective agreements.
