Job Function:

Support the Manager – Health & Wellness in implementing the goals/objectives/strategies of the Health & Wellness Department by providing effective guidance and advice related to all Disability Management programs and services to internal and external parties; specifically, WSIB Reporting and Case Management, Sick Leave (Short Term Disability) and Long-Term Disability. The role operates under a Hybrid Work Model combining in-office and remote work.

 

General Accountabilities:

Through their relationship with the Manager, achieving the corporate strategies, performance targets, continuous improvement and demonstrating core values while adhering to applicable legislation, policies, accountabilities, and budgets related to Disability Management by providing the following:

  • Provide advice, guidance and assistance on Disability Management and Income Protection programs to the various Lines of Business by ensuring accuracy, consistency and financial accountability. 
  • This includes providing direction with respect to accurate reporting, supporting "early and safe return to work" and claims management for; WSIB claims, sick leave absences and long-term disability (LTD) while adhering to the various legislative requirements, collective agreements, privacy and human rights legislation.
  • Assist Managers with preparation of forms, letters, offers of work, and other correspondence through the course of managing applicable disability claims processes.
  • Assist in the design, development and implementation of objectives, strategies and programs to support disability management at Hydro One. Disability Management services include training, program development, process improvements, Return to Work practices, leadership development, and dispute resolution.
  • Formulate strategies to minimize financial impacts of disability to the business.  Utilize qualitative and quantitative measures to illustrate cost-benefit analysis.  Monitor and analyze disability costs to limit exposure for the business.
  • Review and respond to legislative changes that have an impact on Disability Management.  This includes keeping abreast of changes in Disability Management trends, issues, legislation, industry developments, government policy and regulatory changes.
  • Interface with external agencies, service providers and consultants.
  • Attend and deliver workshops/training to enhance service delivery.
  • Prepare, participate or attend as a resource to internal and external dispute resolution proceedings i.e. WSIB Appeals, Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal (WSIAT), internal grievances, mediations, etc.
  • Interact with key stakeholders to resolve controversial issues of mutual concern.
  • Contribute to the development of a strong disability management team through peer support, information sharing, and skill upgrading.

 

Selection Criteria

 

Technical Knowledge:

  • Prior experience in WSIB Reporting and Claims Management, Sick Leave Management, and/or Long-Term Disability management is an asset (minimum 4-years’ experience preferred).
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of legislation, collective agreements, disability management concepts, benefits provisions, Disability Insurance Plans, and occupational health as they relate to Disability Management.
  • Experience working in an Unionized environment
  • Understanding and use of applicable computer programs (i.e. SAP, Service Now, Cority, or other computer-based HR and Occupational Health System(s). Familiarity and understanding of WSIB Online Services. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and associated programs (Outlook, Word, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Superior oral and written communication skills and excellent presentation skills.

 

Education:

  • Four-year university degree in Kinesiology, or related discipline, and/or college diploma in a related field
  • Two or more years of work experience in Human Resources or Disability-related department; with focus on WSIB reporting and case management.
  • Additional Certification preferred: National Institute Disability Management and Research (NIDMAR) Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC) and/or NIDMAR, Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP).

Possible Location: TBD (Southern Ontario; GTA, Barrie, Burlington, Orangeville)
