General Accountabilities:
- Change meters, install and remove check meters and recording voltmeters.
- Collect and record data of company assets.
- Read meters and charts, collect accounts.
- Maintain good customer relations.
- Understands and uses tools, electronic handheld recording devices, instruments and transport equipment in the performance of his/her duties.
- Perform underground locates on distribution system
Specific Accountabilities:
- This tradesperson must be capable of performing all or part of the following duties, depending upon the need of the job.
- Change defective and work program meters
- Install and remove check meters and recording voltmeters on customer premises, as assigned.
- Identify company distribution assets, nomenclature, customer/system connectivity and record information associated with same assets.
- Read and record meter readings for final, regular or other billing as assigned.
- Remove, install and stamp charts for power supply to industrial or municipal customers and other metering locations.
- Check billing rates, fusing, seals, power factor settings, connected load and meter multipliers, for conformity.
- Collect accounts in arrears and disconnect or reconnect service at meter base.
- Report customers requiring assistance concerning power utilization and obtain general information during the course of his/her regular duties.
- Provide general information to customers during the course of job duties.
- Report any irregularities in customer readings and consumption, and apparent deterioration of equipment such as service wires, transformer installations, poles and insulators.
- Record change of ownership and check need for multiple billing.
- Receive customer complaints in the field during normal course of meter readings; be competent in explanations in general; maintain good public relations when advising customer.
- Carry out good housekeeping and fire prevention practices in the performance of his /her work.
- Perform any other duty within the intent of the preamble to the occupational definition
Selection Criteria:
- Must have a Grade X or equivalent.
- Must have knowledge of reading, changing and use of all types of billing meters.
- Understands the use of check meters and voltmeters.
- Must have general knowledge of rate structure and power uses.
- Must understand how to check connected loads.
- Understands and can identify the components of the distribution system including knowledge of distribution standards
