General Accountabilities:

• Change meters, install and remove check meters and recording voltmeters.
• Collect and record data of company assets.
• Read meters and charts, collect accounts.
• Maintain good customer relations.
• Understands and uses tools, electronic handheld recording devices, instruments and transport equipment in the performance of his/her duties.
• Perform underground locates on distribution system

Specific Accountabilities:

• This tradesperson must be capable of performing all or part of the following duties, depending upon the need of the job.
• Change defective and work program meters
• Install and remove check meters and recording voltmeters on customer premises, as assigned.
• Identify company distribution assets, nomenclature, customer/system connectivity and record information associated with same assets.
• Read and record meter readings for final, regular or other billing as assigned.
• Remove, install and stamp charts for power supply to industrial or municipal customers and other metering locations.
• Check billing rates, fusing, seals, power factor settings, connected load and meter multipliers, for conformity.
• Collect accounts in arrears and disconnect or reconnect service at meter base.
• Report customers requiring assistance concerning power utilization and obtain general information during the course of his/her regular duties.
• Provide general information to customers during the course of job duties.
• Report any irregularities in customer readings and consumption, and apparent deterioration of equipment such as service wires, transformer installations, poles and insulators.
• Record change of ownership and check need for multiple billing.
• Receive customer complaints in the field during normal course of meter readings; be competent in explanations in general; maintain good public relations when advising customer.
• Carry out good housekeeping and fire prevention practices in the performance of his /her work.
• Perform any other duty within the intent of the preamble to the occupational definition

Selection Criteria:

• Must have a Grade X or equivalent.
• Must have knowledge of reading, changing and use of all types of billing meters.
• Understands the use of check meters and voltmeters.
• Must have general knowledge of rate structure and power uses.
• Must understand how to check connected loads.
• Understands and can identify the components of the distribution system including knowledge of distribution standards
