Role Overview – The Business Advisor (Indigenous Relations) plays a key role in progressing Hydro One’s Indigenous Relations Strategy by supporting the advancement of key negotiations and engagements focused on being a Trusted Partner to Indigenous groups.  The role provides cultural, strategic, policy, coordination and documentation support for these activities and will be accountable for advancing new actions aimed at making meaningful action on reconciliation at Hydro One.  Reporting to the Senior Indigenous Relations management team, the role will be critical in providing strategic counsel and advancing new Indigenous partnerships. 

  • Manage the advancement of key negotiations and engagements with Indigenous groups by advising on strategy, planning and organizing for execution, and supporting the conclusion of negotiations and engagements 
  • Preparation of PowerPoints, Excel tables, letters and other materials required to support negotiations and engagements with Indigenous groups
  • Lead the organization and tracking of engagements, commitments, budgets, deliverables, and payments related to agreements between Hydro One and Indigenous groups
  • Support the senior Indigenous Relations leadership team in advancing key negotiations and engagements with Indigenous groups
  • Participate in and support the preparation, organization and delivery of key negotiations and engagements
  • Provide strategic insight and advice on advancing new partnerships with Indigenous groups
  • In coordination with legal, lead the preparation, review and finalization of legal documents required to support key negotiations and engagements
  • Conduct research, advise on strategy, develop and implement new policy and make recommendations to help guide Hydro One’s approach to reconciliation in current and future operations
  • Manage and supervise staff and contracts engaged in the delivery of negotiations and engagements with Indigenous groups
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Post-secondary training in business, legal or another related field considered an asset
  • Work experience as a paralegal or in an administrative capacity supporting negotiations, document control, drafting and strategic planning
  • 3-5 years’ experience working to advance negotiations and engagements with Indigenous groups is an asset
  • Highly organized and familiar with development and implementation of systems and approaches to advance negotiations and engagements with Indigenous groups
  • Strong team player with exceptional interpersonal skills and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work well with others
  • Able to lead a team and foster positive working relationships to achieve results.
