Students hired into Estimating Best Practices will be given the opportunity to learn about estimating practices with respect to major capital transmission projects and the appropriate inputs (engineering, procurement, commissioning, construction and tertiary groups) used to deliver our capital work program, with a primary focus on benchmarking. Students will also have exposure to planning budgets and execution activities for transmission line and transmission substation projects.
Your job duties may include:
- Data collection and cleaning: Gather data from various sources and ensure its accuracy and completeness by cleaning and preprocessing it.
- Data Analysis: Perform statistical analysis and data mining to identify trends, patterns and insights that can inform business decisions.
- Benchmarking: Compare organizational performance metrics against industry standards and competitors to identify areas for improvement.
- Report Generation: Create detailed reports and visualizations using tools like Power BI to communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Assist in developing project estimates and monitoring projects during the project planning and estimating phases under the direction of a Project Estimator.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project controls, estimators, reporting and analysis and other team members to support ongoing projects and initiatives.
- Co-Ordinate activities with service providers and stakeholders.
- Assist in developing and preparing processes, procedures or methods related to estimating and benchmarking. Perform other duties as required.
This job will provide you with the following professional development:
- Communication skills, documentation skill, time management skill and analytical skills
- Practice the application of data analysis and benchmarking knowledge with respect to protection, control, substation power systems and transmission line infrastructure.
- Gain the knowledge necessary to develop project estimates amd practice documentation of recording assumptions, risks, cashflow, project cost, variance analysis and comparator overview.
- Gain the in-depth knowledge of overall transmission Station and lines design, construction methodology and project management planning
- Experience with the management processes used to design, procure and construct power systems for
- Transmission lines and stations and data collection, cleansing and analysis.
- Experience in a corporate environment working both independently and within teams on common objectives
Job Requirements:
- Discipline: Mathematics, Statistics, Data Management, Economics, Accounting
- Academic Level: Second or Third year completed
- Other requirements: o Working knowledge of MS Excel, Power BI o G-Class driver’s license is required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills complemented by organizational strengths and an ability to work both autonomously and as a team player.
- A strong focus on customers and the need to be customer focused
