Job Function:
Assist draft, develop and implement internal (employee-facing) and social media communications materials and programs. Collaborate with various Lines of Business to draft and edit employee-facing and social media communications in line with the company's key messages and overarching business and communications objectives. Provide support and assistance to the media relations team as required Job Description: The incumbent is responsible for assisting with and providing support in the development and implementation of internal (employee-facing) communications materials and programs, as well as proactive and reactive (community management) communications on the company's social media channels, with some media relations duties.
General accountabilities
- Participate in the planning, developing and implementation of employee communications, social media plans, and strategies in support of corporately stated objectives to address stakeholder and employee needs.
- Assist with the development of materials for corporate communications activities and speeches. Provide support for social media campaigns, media relations and employee events to promote employee engagement and address business issues.
- Coordinate with various Lines of Business in corporate communications activities and events.
- Participate and assist with the planning, organizing and execution of corporate events such as the President and CEO's quarterly webcasts, Day of Mourning webcast, Health and Safety Champion Awards celebration, International Women's Day event, etc.
- Provide communications support by drafting email communications on their behalf, drafting speaking notes, and developing briefing packages.
- Under the direction of the Supervisor, conduct interviews and compose articles for internal communication platforms including HydroNet and Between the Lines. Assist the senior editorial writer in editing communications submitted to the internal communications department such as employee emails, news items, intranet articles, creative materials, etc.
- Coordinate logistics for internal, media, and/or social media video projects such as on-camera interviews and video shoots.
- Serve as a liaison between the graphic artist and internal contacts to produce creative materials
- Assist develop engaging content for Hydro One's social media platforms which include Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Provide recommendations on how to strategically channel communication plan content in order to best leverage news items and stories.
- Community manage all three social platforms to respond to questions and comments using appropriate key messaging in a timely manner. Compile social media metrics and recommendations to develop status reports for senior management.
- Support the media relations function by periodically fielding calls from the media line and directing reporters to the media relations team or the Director of Communications.
- Participate in on-call media relations and social media duties during level rise and storm events or when dealing with reputational issues. These include fielding calls and questions from reporters and customers to be redirected to the Director of Communications and/or the media relations team. On-call duties for issues that arise on social media after regular business hours as identified in the terms of use may be required.
- Assembling and distributing the daily media summary and various monthly and quarterly reports.
- Perform other duties as required.
Selection Criteria:
Education:
- Requires knowledge of corporate communications, public relations and/or journalism. This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of 4 years of university training (Grade XII plus 4 years) and post-graduate college or university studies.
Experience:
- Requires at least three years' experience in a business communications environment producing various forms of communications materials.
- Requires strong written and verbal communication skills to be able to draft material for the team geared towards various audiences.
- Requires experience in the public communications field to understand the roles of various external agencies, pressure groups, and political parties that influence Hydro One activities.
- Requires experience and familiarity with multiple social media channels to differentiate each one's advantages and leverage each channel to communicate important corporate messages.
