General Accountabilities:

  • Provide expert advice and guidance with Human Resources and Line Management on the interpretation and administration of Hydro One’s collective agreements.
  • Contribute to the development, review, and continuous improvement of labour relations strategies, policies, and programs.
  • Represent and support management in internal and external grievance proceedings, including mediations, arbitrations, Human Rights Tribunals, and Labour Board hearings.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel, HR, and business units to prepare and finalize arbitration briefs.
  • Support and participate in collective agreement renewal negotiations as a member of the management bargaining committee and/or conduct environmental scanning and research to inform bargaining strategies.
  • Ensure effective administration of Hydro One’s collective agreements by providing ongoing advice and delivering labour relations training to managers and supervisors. Training includes interpretive guidance, best practices, arbitration outcomes, recent settlements, legislative updates, etc.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of employment and labour legislation, collective bargaining trends, and arbitration decisions across various sectors.
  • Perform duties in compliance with the Labour Relations Act and other applicable legislation.
  • Develop and deliver labour relations training materials to internal stakeholders.

 

 

Selection Criteria:

 

 

Education:

  • Master’s degree in industrial relations (MIR or MIRHR), JD/LLB, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Employment Standards Act, 2000; Labour Relations Act, 1995; and the Ontario Human Rights Code.
  • Proficiency in English to effectively communicate with employees, management, union representatives, and external adjudicators.

 

Experience:

  • Proven ability to influence and advise various levels of management and external stakeholders.
  • Experience advising on grievances, negotiating with union representatives, and advocating on behalf of management.
  • Demonstrated involvement in external dispute resolution processes, including Labour Board proceedings.
  • Experience in collective bargaining is considered an asset.
  • Typically requires 3–5 years of relevant experience to develop the necessary expertise.
  • Experience in construction labour relations is an asset.
