Manager, Environment, Health & Safety Audit (Hybrid)

General Accountabilities:

Report to the Director, Environment Health, Safety & Sustainability Audit, Internal Audit Services. Support Hydro One’s Internal Audit Services’ function through the planning, execution and reporting on assigned assurance and advisory engagements, with a primary emphasis on internal controls related to areas of environment, health, safety & sustainability (EHSS) risks within Hydro One.

 

Specific Accountabilities:

Within the context provided by the Director, Environment Health, Safety & Sustainability Audit and the Vice President, Risk & Internal Audit Services:

  • Perform Internal Audit engagements, in accordance with Internal Audit’s methodology and the Institute of Internal Auditors – International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF):
    • Conduct risk and controls assessments
    • Develop detailed engagement work programs, outlining plan and approach for assessing areas of risk and effectiveness of key controls and processes
    • Prepare engagement Terms of Reference, identifying business objective, scope, schedule, resourcing and budget
    • Identify and document sufficient, reliable, relevant and useful information to achieve the engagement objectives
    • Prepare and organize engagement workpapers in a way that supports engagement results and conclusions
    • Formulate and clearly communicate engagement results and recommendations
    • Prepare well written, succinct engagement reports and effectively communicate results to internal engagement clients and stakeholders
    • Collaboratively work with engagement clients throughout the engagement lifecycle to obtain management’s concurrence on results and, where appropriate, obtain action plans to address areas of residual risk and improvement.
  • Keep abreast of corporate policies, procedures, legal, regulatory requirements, and industry developments in the areas relating to the work.
  • Participate in Internal Audit’s risk-based audit planning exercises and annual audit plan development.
  • Assist in the continual improvement of Internal Audit standards and practices.
  • Establish and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with colleagues and internal client stakeholders. 

 

Selection Criteria

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Health Science, Engineering, Business Administration or equivalent.
  • Post graduate degree in related major and/or Business Administration is an asset.
  • Professional designation such as P.Eng., CRSP, CPA, professional auditor certification is an asset.
  • Experience with performing assurance work (audits/reviews), advisory services (consulting), business risk assessments, root cause analysis, and investigations is an asset.
  • Understanding of occupational safety, environmental risks and associated regulatory frameworks is an asset.
  • Understanding of the electrical utility industry and general operations is an asset.
  • Understanding of Hydro One’s business model, organizational structure and electricity sector stakeholders is an asset.
  • Requires project management skills to ensure timely execution of engagement work.
  • Requires proficiency in business writing for the preparation of reports and presentations.
  • Requires effective presentation skills, appropriate for senior management levels.
  • Experience with SAP and other enterprise systems is an asset.
  • The ability to work independently or in small teams, as assigned.

  • A minimum period of 5+ years is considered necessary to gain this experience.

Notes:

  • This is a Level 4 position on the Management Compensation Plan.
  • Normal work headquarters for this role is formally assigned to 483 Bay Street, Toronto. However, in accordance with Hydro One's current Future of Work initiative, a hybrid work model is being piloted in 2022, involving 2 days office-based work and 3 days remote / work from home arrangement.    
  • Work may involve travel throughout Ontario. Periodic overnight or extended stays, away from work headquarters, may be required.
  • Requires a valid Ontario Driver’s License.
