Job Function

 

Support the Director – Enterprise Architecture by leading the development and governance of Hydro One’s enterprise data architecture strategy. This role is accountable for the strategic direction of data security, ensuring the cataloging master data repositories, identifying tools for data lineage, minimizing data duplication and sprawl, and providing architectural leadership for data across the organization. The position contributes to:

(a) achievement of corporate performance targets

(b) compliance with regulatory requirements and data privacy standards

(c) fulfillment of internal and external stakeholder expectations

(d) operational efficiency and integrity of enterprise data assets

(e) enabling advanced analytics and digital transformation initiatives.

The role includes tracking industry trends, collaborating with internal partners and external authorities, assessing data architecture maturity, and implementing practices that ensure alignment with business strategy and enterprise standards.

 

General Accountabilities

 

· Assist the Director – Enterprise Architecture in setting strategic direction for enterprise data architecture and governance.

· Provide oversight and governance for data-related investments and their alignment with business value realization.

· Represent the Enterprise Architecture team in collaboration with Hydro One Lines of Business (LOBs) to address data management and analytics requirements.

· Provide direction and input to strategic business planning processes related to data platforms and governance.

 

Specific Accountabilities

 

· Develop and maintain Hydro One’s enterprise data architecture strategy, including standards, principles, and reference models.

· Lead initiatives to catalog master data repositories and establish authoritative sources of truth.

· Define and implement data lineage practices to ensure transparency and traceability of data flows.

· Minimize data duplication and sprawl through rationalization and consolidation strategies.

· Establish and govern metadata management practices, including data cataloging and classification.

· Collaborate with cybersecurity and compliance teams to ensure data protection and privacy requirements are met.

· Provide architectural guidance for data integration, master data management (MDM), and data quality initiatives.

· Support modeling efforts in Ardoq for data domains, ensuring consistency and accuracy.

· Govern solution designs for data-related projects through the Architecture Review Board (ARB).

· Represent Hydro One in industry forums and vendor user groups to stay abreast of best practices and emerging trends.

· Communicate at executive level to link data architecture opportunities with strategic goals.

· Monitor compliance with corporate data policies and standards, and oversee implementation of improvement initiatives.

· Develop and maintain a multi-year roadmap and resource plan for enterprise data architecture.

· Ensure staffing strategies support long-term sustainment of high-expertise resources in data architecture and governance.

· Provide leadership in the development and implementation of complex projects and processes supporting enterprise data platforms.

· Evaluate options and synthesize optimal specifications and plans for enhancements to data architecture.

· Develop budgetary and Class A estimates for data architecture alternatives for business planning and work programming.

· Ensure enterprise data platforms meet reliability, security, and performance expectations.

· Integrate corporate objectives and regulatory requirements with technology trends to guide evolution of data systems.

· Conduct service and performance reviews, contract management, and vendor compliance monitoring.

 

Managerial Accountabilities

 

· Provide leadership and sponsorship in key data architecture and governance initiatives.

· Manage financial performance of data architecture programs in accordance with Hydro One’s investment framework.

· Manage career development of subordinates through goal alignment, performance reviews, and training plans.

· Provide other managerial and administrative duties as required.

 

Technical Knowledge

 

· Minimum 10 years’ experience in enterprise data architecture and governance.

· Deep understanding of data security, privacy, and compliance frameworks.

· Expertise in data modeling, metadata management, and master data management (MDM).

· Familiarity with SAP S/4HANA, Esri GIS, and utility control systems (GE EMS and Schneider ADMS).

· Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and data catalog tools (Collibra, Informatica, Alation).

· Knowledge of data integration platforms and enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF, ArchiMate).

· Proficiency in architecture modeling tools, especially Ardoq.

· Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements affecting data management.

· Understanding of cybersecurity principles in enterprise and OT environments.

· Experience in developing and evolving data architecture standards and reference architectures.

· Working knowledge of COBIT, ITIL, and data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK).

· Effective communication and facilitation skills, including executive-level engagement.

· Strategic business thinking – ability to apply technical knowledge to management decisions that achieve business objectives.

· Team leadership – ability to lead architecture teams and foster collaboration across departments.
