New Grad Program

The two-year program offers a permanent position from Day 1, a combination of training and coaching, and the ability to rotate through several roles allowing New Grads to gain experience working on different projects and in different environments.   

Program Eligibility  

• You have graduated with your bachelor's degree in 2023, 2024 or will graduate by May 2025  

• Or, you are currently completing a master's degree in a related field, you are graduating by May 2025, and have a maximum of 1 year between completing your bachelor's degree and enrolling in your master's program.  

• Good Academic Standing (A copy of your Official/Unofficial Transcript)  

• Valid, permanent driver's license (Ontario Class G)  

Capital Portfolio Delivery, Commissioning Estimating & Best Practices 

We are seeking 1 Engineering/Power & Energy Engineering Technology New Grad within our Capital Portfolio Delivery, Commissioning Estimating & Best Practices Team.  

Our Capital Portfolio Delivery division is responsible for leveraging our internal capabilities and working with key stakeholders and Indigenous partners to efficiently deliver our growing capital plan, ensuring Hydro One can support the future of energy in our province.   Estimators within Capital Portfolio Delivery, Commissioning Estimating & Best Practices at Hydro One Networks Inc. are engaged in a variety of challenging and exciting roles and responsibilities, including, leading and participating in technical reviews, scope development, risk assessment, and preparation of cost estimates for the station’s services scope of large capital infrastructure transmission projects. 

The Commissioning Estimating team prepares detailed stations services estimates as one of the main inputs to larger project estimates, variance analysis, benchmarking and acts as key stakeholder within the capital portfolio delivery model. New Graduates will also gain a comprehensive understanding of the entire project lifecycle.  

In this role you will: 

• Learn estimating functions and the function it plays within the project life cycle 

• Interface with other lines of business, regarding details of design and construction/commissioning activities 

• Gain an understanding of risk management 

• Gain an understanding of Capital Delivery Model.   

• How the electricity grid is built, maintained, and operated. 

• How large capital transmission infrastructure projects are defined, planned, estimated and delivered. 

Duties may include: 

• Preparing commissioning estimates in support of the investment approval process 

• Review technical specification, input documentation, drawings and attend project meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of a commissioning estimate 

• Engage in benchmark reviews with field personnel. 

• Collaborate with engineering, procurement and project management teams to gather necessary information for accurate estimating 

• Conduct site visits and assessments to gather data for estimates 

• Participate in project risk workshops and stakeholder meetings 

• Present estimates, assumptions and documentation to management review panel

Job Requirements:  

• Must meet New Grad Program Eligibility Requirements  

• A University undergraduate degree in Engineering (Electrical), Power and Energy Engineering Technology, or related field of study 

• Previous Co-op/Internship experience in a relevant field and industry is considered an asset 

• Familiar with general engineering project life cycles and processes. 

• Fundamental knowledge of power systems and their protection and control systems 

• Familiar with project management practices 

• Familiar with SharePoint, Power BI, Power Automate and SAP is an asset.
