New Grad Program  

Candidates selected for this position will be included in Hydro One's New Grad development program. Please apply to a maximum of 3 New Grad Positions of your choice.  

Our New Graduate program reflects our long-term commitment to invest time and resources to build the best and brightest team. Program Eligibility  

  • You have graduated with your bachelor's degree in 2023, 2024 or will graduate by May 2025  

  • Or, you are currently completing a master's degree in a related field, you are graduating by May 2025, and have a maximum of 1 year between completing your bachelor's degree and enrolling in your master's program.  

  • Good Academic Standing (A copy of your Official/Unofficial Transcript)  

  • Valid, permanent driver's license (Ontario Class G)  

 

Transmission & Stations Engineering

Engineers within Engineering Services at Hydro One Networks Inc. are engaged in a variety of challenging and exciting roles and responsibilities. Transmission and Stations Engineering provides multi-disciplinary engineering and drafting services to support Hydro One’s capital work program. Transmission and Stations Engineering is split across four engineering disciplines – Stations, Protection & Control, Telecom, Transmission Lines and supported by the Engineering Enablement Team. Our team provides a full range of engineering services including feasibility studies, conceptual engineering, estimating, failure analysis, Protection, Control & Metering design, CADD Support, technical authority roles and support to our Planning, Operating and Field Organizations 

 

We Are looking for Electrical Engineering New Grads within our Stations, Lines and  Engineering Enablement groups.

 

The Stations Engineering Electrical team is responsible for locating and arranging substation equipment; sizing and arrangement of station bus conductor; the design of AC and DC station service systems, including transformer and battery sizing, distribution panel arrangement, arc flash analysis; designing grounding and lightning protection systems. The Lines Engineering team is primarily involved with the design of high voltage transmission lines at 115kV and above voltage level.  

 

In this role you will learn:

  • Develop ability to assess design options and solutions

  • Station electrical arrangement/ basic layout design ability development Substation project engineering management skill hands on experience. Power system safety practical knowledge

  • Gaining hands on experience with Hydro One transmission standards and industrial standards, for example, IEC, IEEE, CSA  

  • Development of planning skills through the prioritization of multiple activities

  • Improving communications skills to communicate with internal and external stakeholders

  • Gaining technical writing knowledge through the preparation and checking of contract documents, Scopes of Work, presentations, and technical reports and specifications

  • Developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with both internal and external customers

  • Improving independent work ability

  • Working knowledge and ability in using Microsoft applications, Hydro One computer applications, and other vendor provided programs and applications

Duties may include:

• Preparation of drafting specifications/markups

• Collaborate with others in the division in the development of design solutions

• Utilization of software for engineering analysis, studies and equipment specification/selection.

Job Requirements

  • Must meet New Grad Program Eligibility Requirements

  • University Degree - Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree

  • Required Courses - Focus on Power Systems (Three Phase Machines, Power Engineering, Electrical Insulations) for 1 position

  • Familiar with using CAD software such as AutoCAD and PLS-CADD

  • Previous co-op experience in a relevant field and industry is considered an asset
