The position is required to:


Meet customer expectations by providing services that excel in the service dimensions of reliability, assurance, tangibles, empathy and responsiveness.

  • Provide functional advice, interpretation and guidance to system users within the Business Unit regarding the application of state-of-the-art software technologies. Consider the work processes as well as users' business requirements and make appropriate system recommendations.
  • Conduct studies, normally in a team setting, to assist users in defining and documenting functional and system requirements for potential system solutions. Identify alternative solutions based on users' business needs and available/emerging technology. Assist users to prepare business case including development of projected costs and benefits. Act as a project team leader, as required, in the analysis and design of new systems or major enhancement to existing systems.
  • Provide an in-house programming resource to assure and expedite the development and modification of software within the control of the Department. Interpret variables and alternatives for computer applications maintenance, discuss and evaluate individual user requirements for software or hardware, interface with external groups on technical matters and consider the potential for application infield locations. Ensure integrity and consistent application of distributed software by developing standard operating procedures, documentation and security/recovery measures.
  • Represent the Department or the supervisor on Corporate or Business Unit project teams, where information technology-related issues are being reviewed.
  • Provide a value-added liaison function with system end users and Business Services (formerly Information Services Division) regarding modification/enhancement to installed customized Business Unit systems. Maintain and control the ongoing maintenance contract with Business Services to ensure timely completion of tasks and value for money. Participate in the development of the annual system maintenance budget, anticipating future enhancement needs for review by users and supervisor.
  • Provide training to field users or junior staff as required on system operations and procedures.
  • Assist supervisor in developing strategic direction for the system support function. Assess potential market development and be proactive in assessing impact of technological changes.
  • Perform other duties as required


Selection Criteria:


Requires a knowledge of state-of-the-art computer software and hardware to assess,evaluate and recommend additions, modifications or replacement of existing systems. Requires good communication skills to liaise with end users and technical resource to ensure that business needs are met.

Requires technical skills such as computer programming and system design.This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired either through the successful completion of a four year university education in the appropriate subjects or by having the equivalent level of education.


Requires experience with Hydro One to become familiar with the overall management model and Corporate systems structure.

Requires experience within the Business Unit to acquire a knowledge of the organization serviced by the Department, and of the operational characteristics and functions of the systems as well as the processes, policies and procedures.

Requires further experience to perform an advisory function in Business Unit locations regarding the selection and application of computer systems and equipment.

Requires experience to carry out studies as a team leader to assess and respond to users' business needs regarding information systems.A period of up to eight years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
