Hydro One is currently hiring an HR Advanced Analytics Consultant to perform quantitative and qualitative research, statistical analysis, and data mining. Our ideal candidate takes a consultative approach to supporting Human Resources services with an advanced analytics skill set.
Specific Accountabilities:
Data, Reporting and Analytics
- Provide various analytical and reporting services related to human resources information and data. Conduct data processing such as integrating various data points and data sources into coherent data sets that can be used for reporting, analysis, and insights.
- Leverage appropriate analytics and/or research techniques to uncover meaningful insights from available data and information (e.g. quantitative and qualitative research, statistical analysis, data mining etc.)
- Articulate coherent and meaningful stories to present findings and explain insights – through appropriate presentations or communication channels
- Research, develop and apply new and emerging analytical tools and techniques that help evolve data processing and analytics capabilities
- Provide counsel and general expertise in the field of data, reporting and analytics in the context of HR
Client Management, collaboration, and consulting/support
- Support the delivery of HR data, reporting and analytics work programs (e.g. workforce and headcount planning, regulatory reporting, metrics and measures development, benchmarking, dashboard and reporting development initiatives, analytics research projects etc.)
- Rationalizing and gathering stakeholder/user requirements
- Designing and developing analytics or reporting solutions
- Coordinating user decision-making process
- Resolving data and process issues between users
- Integrating user plans with overall project plans
- Managing user project resources
- Coordinating user resources external to project required
- Coordinating acceptance/testing
- Integrating product across all organizational units involved
- Supporting change management and communications
- Leading presentations and facilitating workshops
- Conducting executive and senior leadership presentations and discussions
- Support junior staff on specific project assignments where applicable.
Project Management, Planning and Day-to-day work execution
- Develop plans and recommend priorities for the delivery of HR data and analytics projects or initiatives: plan timelines and activities, identify constraints, interface with stakeholders and application development groups
- Drive day-to-day work management of operational tasks
- Provide general project management support to the reporting and analytics operations initiatives or projects
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of work items
- Assess team capacity and triage incoming requests
- Work with Manager HR Reporting and Analytics to execute the team’s operational objectives
- Support more junior reporting and analytics operations team members in day-to-day deliverables
- Perform administrative functions to ensure that the functions of the team are performed effectively including budgeting, business planning and work program management.
- Perform other duties as required.
Systems / Technical
- Build custom reporting and dashboards
- Develop / program data processing algorithms or automation
- Provide general advice and guidance on data requirements on a broad range of perspectives both technical and business oriented: user system requirements, specifications for information systems, and the subsequent development of the related data and/or analytics systems or dashboards.
- Review database/computer system requirements to support HR reporting and analytics functions as well as alignment to corporate HR policies and procedures, compliance with overall business data governance policies and the general appropriateness to existing and potential systems.
- Integrate system requirements with other potential requirements for processing human resources data and existing information systems. Ensure database and information systems used in HR are aligned with applicable security and corporate standards.
Selection Criteria:
- A minimum of approximately 5 years of experience, (human resources related data, analytics, data science experience an advantage)
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in related fields: Analytics, Business, Human Resources, Information Systems, or other relevant fields of study

- Excellent communication skills and the ability to summarize information concisely and present in written, graphical and/or verbal format to convey complex information to all levels of stakeholders
- Ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of leaders and staff, developing strong working relationships with individuals across the company
- Ability to work with vague and incomplete business requirements: independently gather missing requirements, gain clarity on deliverables, and escalate needed support
- Excels at building partnerships, both inside and outside the team, and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
- Advanced computer skills and expert proficiency in the use of Excel (e.g. vlookups, if-statements, advanced formulas, pivot tables, charts etc.)
- Tech-savvy in creating reports, dashboards, and metrics that translate data into meaningful insights that provide advice and guidance to managers, executives, peers.
- Experience in Reporting, Dashboard and HR IS related technologies and functionality (any or all the examples below)

- SAP SuccessFactors, SAP BI
- PowerBI Desktop, PowerBI Server, PowerBI Apps
- Extensive background in data extraction, data manipulation, data mining (using any or all the examples below
- SQL
- R, Python
- Advanced Excel (Macros, Power Pivot etc.)
