Senior Technical Writer

Hiring salary range: $4,102.00 - 5,508.40 / Bi-weekly

General Accountabilities:

• Develop business cases and other technical documents as required to support the delivery of the capital work program.

• Provide advice and assistance to staff in each of the functional groups that support the delivery of our capital work program, on the application of business cases and technical documents.

• Ensure requests for business cases are processed on time and in the form in which they are required for review and approval.

• Maintain the accuracy of information contained within the business cases, technical documents and standards being developed

• Monitor the development and review of the documents and provide timely reports to Management on development trends, usage/accuracy details.

• Provide updates on the development of the documents, and their reviews and ensure that the proper QA/QC is applied for both developed documentation and existing maintained documentation. 

• Develop and maintain procedures and guidelines for development of new business cases, technical documents, standards and for updating/maintaining existing business cases, technical documents, and standards.

• Develop and deliver training documentation on accepted formats for business cases, technical documents, standards and specifications.

• Provide expert knowledge on the development and review of business cases throughout the project lifecycle. 

• Develop and maintain a Quality Control process to review new business cases, technical documents and standards before they are completed, to ensure documents produced are as per accepted formats.           

• Keep abreast of developments with respect to technical writing and technical writing tools. Assist in researching, planning, writing and illustrating documentation which explains complex material to an internal (and external) technical and non-technical audience.

• Perform other duties as required.

Selection Criteria:

• Requires a knowledge of business administration and engineering science to develop business cases, technical documents, standards and job aids.

• Requires strong communication skills, in order to communicate technical and non-technical information.

• Requires experience with business writing, technical writing and engineering literature

• Requires the ability to work well under pressure and with tight timelines.

• Requires strong analytical, presentation and interpersonal skills.

• Requires experience in the transmission/distribution business to be familiar with the overall operation, functions of major organizational groups, policy and planning practices as it relates to the planning, review and approval capital projects

• Requires strong working knowledge of SAP, SharePoint, MS Office (Visio/Excel/Word/PowerPoint)

• This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of 4 years of University education in business administration and/or engineering science along with a period of 8+ years of experience
