Through collateral relationships with respect to the Sr Manager, Indigenous Relations, and within context provided by the Director (i.e., corporate strategies and policies, accountabilities, tasks, budget and programs, compliance and performance targets, expectations for continuous improvement, etc.), provide the following:

  • Maintain and promote implementation of Hydro Ones Indigenous Relations Policy.
  • Facilitate the process and content of engagement with Indigenous communities.
  • Promote business and workforce development for Indigenous peoples.
  • Support and implement processes to enable Hydro One employees to understand the unique legal, historical and cultural significance of Indigenous peoples, for the purpose of promoting effective relationships.
  • Provide strategic advice to Hydro Ones LOB vis a vis Indigenous Relations.
  • Ensure appropriate participation/communication with government, industry, Vis a Vis Indigenous provincial territorial organizations and communities.
  • In support of Hydro One projects and activities work with the Crown and consultation with Indigenous peoples and communities in the early stages and throughout, major projects development and accommodate, as necessary.
  • Develop strategies to effectively manage Hydro One's relationships with Indigenous leaders, government departments and agencies and with federal, provincial, and municipal leaders.
  • Provide business insight and support for regulatory processes.
  • Assist in identifying existing and future risks to Hydro One's ability to deliver reliable, low-cost energy and help develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Support the development of formal and informal briefings for internal stakeholders, executives and the Board.
  • Report on implementation of project plans.
  • Manage consultants and specialists’ contracts for their services and dealing with contract administration matters.
  • Support strategic and contractual relationships between Indigenous issues as they relate to the energy industry.
  • Conduct analysis on highly complex Indigenous issues such as economic development, overlapping traditional territory, capacity development.
  • Perform statistical analysis on the adequacy of programs and their presentations with respect to public opinion and current trends. 17.Provide advice on current consultations and negotiations with Indigenous leaders. 18.Perform other duties as required.

 

Selection Criteria

Essential Competencies:

  • Requires experience in project management and negotiations, including development and implementation of Indigenous engagement and consultation plans.
  • A background in business planning and reporting with well-developed analytical skills.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the goals and aspirations of Indigenous people in Ontario and how they relate to the energy industry.
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to function effectively as a team member.
  • A period of over 8 years and up to and including 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
  • The ability to work in a busy environment with competing and changing priorities and limited supervision (supervising manager will be based out of Toronto).
  • Requires planning, organizing, scheduling, assigning and monitoring the quality and quantity of work.
  • A university degree in Indigenous studies, social sciences, public or business administration, public policy or equivalent.
  • Frequent travel may be required and a valid Driver’s License is necessary
