General Accountabilities:

  • Design, develop, and deliver training materials for training programs used by internal and external stakeholders involved in the delivery of Hydro One’s transmission capital work program. Training methods include instructor-led, computer-based, virtual and train the trainer methods.
  • Provide an up-to-date training curriculum centered on processes and practices within capital project delivery, utilizing the most effective training techniques and applications for all ages of the adult learner.
  • Work with project teams, clients, technical specialists, and internal/external consultants to prepare training materials, guides, documents, and reports.
  • Analyze process gaps to identify training requirements, and make recommendations for new or revised programs, methods, processes, training manuals, and reference materials.
  • Develop new and update existing training resources, lesson plans, and course content by applying training theory, technical resources, directives, standards, policies, and processes.
  • Examine capabilities, identify areas of improvement, and perform root cause analysis to determine the best training solution through consultations with stakeholders.
  • Make decisions regarding the type and depth of learning required, and work with clients to ensure that training objectives are relevant to the on-the-job requirements of staff.
  • Develop and maintain training evaluation criteria to measure (i) trainee reaction, (ii) acquired knowledge, (iii) acquired skills, and (iv) on-the-job results.
  • Evaluate courses for effectiveness and efficiency. Perform department level feedback reviews. Report results of investigations and assessments and make recommendations to management.
  • Ensure effective means are provided and maintained to facilitate employee input to training material.
  • Perform other duties as required.


Selection Criteria:

  • Requires knowledge of various learning technologies, training and development theory and techniques to design, develop and review training programs.
  • Requires proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Visio.
  • Requires a knowledge of project management practices along with a broad understanding of capital project planning and execution.
  • Requires experience to be familiar with training needs analysis, developing training procedures and practices and assessing trainee performance and capabilities
  • Requires strong communication skills in order to make effective presentations, prepare reports and communicate effectively with others.  This knowledge is considered be normally acquired either through the successful completion of a three year university education plus one year further concentrated study in Adult Education or by having the equivalent level of education.
  • Occasional travel may be required throughout Ontario



  • Post-secondary education in adult learning, education or a related field with 3-5 years’ experience in instructional design, preferably in a technical training role
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning principles and strategies for driving learner engagement and knowledge retention
  • Successful record of building effective learning experiences in the format of simulations, job aids, infographics, videos and animation/motion graphics
  • Advanced proficiency with eLearning authoring tools
  • Proven project and time management skills in an environment where you may be contributing to several projects simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to build strong partnerships quickly and effectively
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast paced environment
  • Maintain a strong attention to detail and high accountability to ensure accuracy of deliverables
  • Creative and practical thinker with proven analytical and problem solving abilities
