Student will assist Operating Engineering - Project Enablement group which is responsible for:

  • Providing Operating Engineering input to different groups (such as Control Room, Engineering, Asset Management, Operating Technology, and Project Management) by reviewing Transmission & Distribution capital, sustainment, and development projects.
  • Performing power system studies and defining operating settings for Automatic Recloser, Automatic Voltage Regulation, & Programmable Synchro check relays.
  • Providing operating designations and nomenclature to assets/facilities.
  • Creating and issuing facility sketches for new/refurbishment facilities.
  • Creating and maintaining Milestone Record System (MRS) for all major projects and programs within transmission and distribution system.
  • Maintaining/updating bulk electricity system diagrams.

 

University Student's job duties may include:

  • Assist in revising facility sketches/electrical drawings or create new facility sketches/drawings using AUTOCAD 2-D application.
  • Collect/analyze data and gather project documents to create/modify records in MRS.
  • Assist preparing updates to Operating Engineering processes/standards.
  • Contact/work with project managers, planners, project engineers, and engineer designers.

 

This job will provide student with following professional development:

  • Knowledge of electrical energy and power systems engineering applied to Transmission and Distribution systems.
  • Understanding different types of electrical diagrams (single line, operating diagrams, layout, schematic diagrams).
  • Gain experience in analyzing and problem solving of electrical transmission and distribution grids.
  • Ability to read and understand Engineering drawings, electrical components modelling and their database.
  • Understanding transmission line auto reclosing techniques, voltage regulations at stations and synchronizing electrical islands
  • Renewable energy (solar, wind, hydro) integration into transmission and distribution systems.
  • Distributed Energy Resources, DER Aggregators, and Distributed Energy Management Systems.

 

 

Selection Criteria:

  • B.Sc. Electrical Engineering (Power System preferred).
  • Minimum 3rd year.
  • Familiarity with AUTOCAD 2-D is essential.
