Work Term: 12-16 Months

 

The successful applicant will help plan, develop, implement, and support IT solutions at Acronym.

 

General Accountabilities:

  • Configure and maintain complex enterprise application systems
  • Provide front-line technical support
  • Produce technical documentation
  • Administer and maintain servers and databases
  • Work with Unix and Linux operating systems
  • Participate in large-scale enterprise IT projects
  • Interface with other units as required.

 

Position will provide you with the following professional development:

  • The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work directly under the supervision of the IT team, where they will be able to participate directly in projects. This will develop hands-on skills including the design and planning of enterprise applications and infrastructure
  • The successful applicant will learn how to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, how to work as part of a functional and project team, including written and oral communication skills.
  • The successful applicant will learn the practical use of various software tools to support the IT function such as MS Office (Visio, Excel, Word), various data base platforms, and various OSS/BSS tools to support the telecommunications business. 
  • See first-hand how a commercial telecom service provider operates
  • Gain experience in computer system administration
  • Practice hands-on operations support of a large IT infrastructure
  • Hone your skills in customer service
  • Develop skills in technical documentation
  • Participate in enterprise software implementation and integration projects

 

Selection Criteria:

  • 3rd or 4th year Computer science, Computer Engineering, IT or related
  • Understanding of RDBMS and SQL
  • Hands-on experience with Unix and Linux operating systems
  • Understanding of computer architecture
  • Hands-on experience with MS-Access, UNIX, Windows Server, and scripting environments such as Python, BASH scripting and Perl
  • Familiarity with networking concepts
  • Experience working in a team environment on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Experience in diagnoses and troubleshooting of problems within IT systems.
  • Experience producing various technical and performance reports/documents, with various software applications such as MS Word, Excel, Project and Visio.
  • Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer commitment
  • Demonstration of time-management skills.
  • Team and individual problem solving and strong analytical skills
  • Can work independently or in small team environment
